The Huntington Japanese House, originally commissioned in 1903 as a display venue by a Pasadena dealer in Far Eastern arts and artifacts, was bought in 1911 by Henry Huntington, who moved it to his new estate, today’s Huntington Library and Gardens, in neighboring San Marino. A century later, a comprehensive restoration has revealed new ways to understand and recapture the building’s historical narrative.
