Post Wanted: Orange/LA architect & builder referrals
First post here. We are in the process of looking for a architect that is well versed in the authentic craftsman style for a porch addition and front of house remodel. While adding the porch we want to give the house the hallmarks of a real bunglow(wide porch, large entry door, shingle siding, wide base columns, overly wide eves, exposed large rafter tails/barge boards, stone or clinker foundations, etc). I am very partial to the "airplane" style and I think the low pitch of the current house could accommodate such additional nested roof structures to emulate that design.

Unfortunately we do not own a lovely old real Craftsman so our best option is to turn this ranch'esq house in to a tribute one :-). I'm very concerned that the person we hire takes the time to get the details right and has done this type of style correctly before. Correct proportions, materials, and details are very important to me on this project. Any referrals are much appreciated! Thanks.

I'd like to refer Doug Ewing. He established Ewing Architects in 1972 and has built a strong reputation for quality work with particular attention to detail. There are images of his craftsman residential projects on the Ewing Architects website. His firm is located in Pasadena, CA and he's great to work with also.

Just now saw this, so thank you!

We are reconsidering our first choice of an architect. It's just not working out as he either does not understand what we are trying to accomplish or is unwilling to (warning: cliché coming) "think outside the box" to get us closer to what we want.

I will definitely contact them along with some others I've been referred to. My wallet is getting very nervous ;-)

Thanks again!

Steve
