I once saw an old sales calendar that had a drawing and floor plan that was identical to my 1920 house (below) and was named "the California Bungalow". I have searched and search and have found many styles of a "California bungalow" none looking anywhere near like mine - so I am curious, is my house a bungalow and has anyone ever seen one like?

Hi, I just saw your post.I'd have to look through the two Standard Homes catalogs i have to see if I can find anything similar to yours. It is similar to a home in one of the Wardway catalogs, but will have to check. The pillars look more colonial revival, and the shed dormer is more craftsman I guess, so it seems to be a mixture of styles to me.

Hello HollyDolly - thank you for the reply! The columns were covered some years ago before I purchased, not sure why - maybe they were trying to differentiate from the rest of the neighborhood, same with the carport. I believe it originally looks like an arbor that someone years ago covered into a carport.

Any information you could come up with would be much appreciated!

Hey Cess, Haven't had a chance to look through the two books I own.I will this weekend. The carport looks like it once might have been an a porte coche,.it was a porch area that one could drive a coach or buggy under in Victorian days next to the house, and allowed the passengers to get out in rainly or snowy weather close to the house, without getting wet. Usually the house would have a door on that side.
Aladdin's Shadowlawn Model has one, and in the illustration it shows a driveway going to the garage. In victorian times, it was a stable. You sometimes see these still in houses of the 1900s and 1920s.Only people used them for the same reasons, and also to park their car,if they didn't have a garage. However one could order from Sears,Montgomery Wards, Aladdin ,Lewis ,Gordon VanTine and other kit home manufacturers, garages to also go with your house too.
