Hey everybody. Was reading the posts on linoleum and was wondering if anybody has been able to find a source for vintage or reproduction linoleum?

Hi there! Sheet linoleum was our big splurge in our mostly-DIY, non-period-but-with-vintage-touches kitchen reno. [Which is still in progress, alas!] The floor has been down about 2 months; it looks great, feels great, and cleans like a dream. We have the Armstrong Marmorette lino, which has a marbled (not MARBLE, though!) look similar to fancy Italian stationery. Forbo is another manufacturer.

To save a *little* money, we used a large discount flooring place to buy the material. Because we didn't feel up to installing the sheet lino, labor was about double the cost of material. I hear the lino squares are very doable for nonprofessionals, though--we almost did that.

I'd be happy to try to answer any other questions you have. Unless you buy an actual vintage piece, though, I think most of the new lino is similar to what I have--eg not a cool illustration-y design.

Did you try a web search for "vintage linoleum".
Found www.secondhandrose.com which looks like it has rolls of pre-1950s linoleum and other stuff. They say $10 per sq.ft. to $2500 per sq.ft.

Here's the link to Farbo (very cool stuff) - http://www.forbo-linoleum.nl/marmoleum

A neat little trick I saw once was to cut out a design from the linoleum and cut out a "fill-in" from another color. Once the fill-in was inserted into the empty design spot.....the linoleum was such that the design melded together. A lot of potential for fun and very original designs.....

Barbara, I know...and the Forbo site is great! Glad I started there even though I ended up with Armstrong lino. It made me enjoy the process so much more!
eta: high prices for all the good stuff--sigh.

The bummer about www.secondhandrose is that Martha featured it in one of her magazines......and supplies/prices haven't been the same since
