Post Whats my bungalow?!
Hello bungalownians! I am a new home owner of a seriously mistreated bungalow. Got it for a good price and I hope to turn it into an amazing home. I know it was built in the late 1920's, and from what I understand about the Bungalow genre, I think this might be considered a craftsman? Let me know what you think!

Exterior pictures are here:

Interior pictures are here:

I am excepting ideas and comments! I would like to know the genre of the house, so I can try and stick with the theme as much as possible! Thanks! :)

I believe you will end up with an amazing home, Pottsie! You have a lot of things going for you--looks like new water heater and somewhat new furnace, although some pipes look old. Lots of windows! The downstairs ones look original; I would try to keep them if I were you. And it has been remodeled and decorated--35 years ago!!

Your house is similar in style to mine, and I also am having trouble with my porch. Have you identified the cause of the crack? I had to almost rebuild my porch due to rot. (See Tin Siding under Exterior thread) I love the outside of your house--definitely craftsman--especially the brackets. Inside it doesn't have as many craftsman features, which is also like mine. I would like to be the crafts(wo)man who turns my interior into one. That is if I ever finish the porch.

You have a lot of work ahead of you. Have fun and keep us posted!

I agree with you Lin. Not many features inside show ANY characteristics! I hope to add my own. I like the flow of the porch. Big pillars with masonry sliding hand rails. I am going to try and incorporate this into the inside design.

I am assuming that the crack in the porch is from ground settlement. The crawl space still has quite a bit of moisture even though we have had the driest summer on record here. Fortunately, even with the crack, the porch is still level, so I should be able to fill it before the exterior paint job, and fix the grade to slope more away from the house.

Windows are going to stay, new ones are to expensive, and these are still in good shape.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I am going to start a start a blog site for the project, I will update you on that link!

THANKS!

It is definitely a craftsman style bungalow. Fortunately, a lot of the exterior features like the brackets are still there. Those are the kind of things that too often get removed. The interior , obviously, needs a lot of work, but think of how much time you'll save not having to remove paint from the woodwork. Good luck.

First off, congrats on the home purchase. The exterior has really great lines and has so much potential. Unfortunately, as you well know, all of the interior details were stripped out during it's 1960's/70's remuddle. I look at those interior pictures and see a blank canvas, waiting for a new masterpiece!
Good luck and keep us posted on your work.
