Hello!

We've recently purchased a home that was built in the 1930's and we're interested in some feedback. The home looks kind of like a Chicago bungalow, but it's only one floor.

The house is in need of cosmetic update - it was victim of a variety of 1970 style renovations (including vinyl windows and a vinyl 'Facelifters' kitchen remodel), and we're planning to make small improvements as time and money will permit.

We have a lot of questions that we're looking forward to asking on this forum but we'll stick with just one for this post: What is the style of this home?

I think your description of it as a single story Chicago bungalow is as good as any. The asymetrical front is certainly very Chicago bungalowish. What is the front room? In Chicago bungalows it is often a living or dining room rather than a bedroom. Is there a full stairway up to the attic? Bungalows were often built so that the attic space could be converted into a bedroom at a later date.

The front right (from the street) is a sunroom with a living room right behind it. The front left is a bedroom that was converted to a library, by a previous owner. All of the bedrooms (3 total) are back to back along the left side of the house (one enters into the living room and two into a back hallway).

There are no steps to the attic, just a hole in the hallway ceiling. We've been toying around with taking out two deep back-to-back closets and putting a staircase in, since there is a massive space in the attic that would be, as you mentioned, perfect for an additional bedroom.
