Post ceiling fans
in the south, ceiling fans are sometimes necessary...sometimes i find a ceiling fan whose light is classic schoolhouse type of shade but the blades are too modern or the finish isn't right for a 1920's southern bungalow..any suggestions?

I have a couple of ideas one is to paint the blades to the appropriate finish or buy replacement blades that are better suited to what you want. I'm sure there are vintage reproduction lighting companies that would carry such beasts too. <br>tanya

part of the problem is trying to find an appropriate style..lighting is not a problem..there are books and catalogs all about 'craftsman' lighting..but ceiling fans are never addressed..or even new ceiling fans that would fit into an old house without sticking out too much..i've found alot of "victorian" style ceiling fans but those are too ornate for a small, understated bungalow..

I found mine (for bedrooms only) at Home Depot. Nice color, sort of a school house look. Definitely not Victorian. Of course, they aren't 85 years old, but they function, and fit in.

This one from RH, in a bronze finish, looks perfect in my house. Unlike others I've seen that scream "A&C" juuuuust a little too loudly... great looking, but not an attention grabber. You can probably find it cheaper somewhere else, though the "tobacco" colored blades may be exclusive to those sold by RH. <br> <br>http://www.restorationhardware.com/page.jhtml?type=product&id=prod1920004&categoryId=cat970026 <br> <br>Greg

Some of the Emerson fans are nice and simple. For our front screened porch we chose the Summer Night: <br> <br>http://www.emersonfans.com/catalog_detail.jsp?id=45&item=5 <br> <br>For indoor these are nice IMHO (still have not changed out the indoor fans yet): <br> <br>http://www.emersonfans.com/catalog_detail.jsp?id=35&item=4 <br>http://www.emersonfans.com/catalog_detail.jsp?id=2&item=3
