They don't make 'em like they used to!
Up in our attic, we have an old carbon filament light bulb with a point on the bulb and the black turn-switch still hooked up. We were having some electrical work done, and would you believe it is still working?!?!? Our house was built in 1919. So, it's been working for about 80 years! Hmmm....would Guinness Records have a category for this? LOL!!!

I saw a news story on cnn.com a while back that there is a light bulb that was turned on around 1910 and has never been turned off. It's in a old firehouse and that one is currently the record holder. If that one should ever burn out your might be the new record holder. I would contact them and tell them of your discovery.

Re: They don't make 'em like they used to!
We have a "laundry room" in our basement that is original to the house. It has a soapstone sink, which is still in working order, and a toilet, which has a patent date of 1899 (the house was built in 1912). Its covered in dirt and does not look as if anyone has looked at it in at least 50 years. So I'm down there in my PJ's the other morning and I get curios about this thing and how it works. I end up tripping the water line and the tank and bowl filled up with water... the damn thing still works! In addition, at some point the house was connected to the town sewer line but this toilet and the laundry sink drain out into the old septic system...

<br>A toilet in the basement can be really handy when you are covered in filth and don't want to use the civilized toilets upstairs...

I remember going to an open house in our neighborhood a couple of years ago and they had a couple of original working bulbs at the juncture of the box beams in the ceiling of the living room! House was built in the '20s

It's a bulb in a firehouse in Livermore CA that has been turned on continuously since 1901 and it's still burning.

Yes, you are correct...It was 1901. I havn't seen the story for a while so I was a little off on the date. But to burn a light for over 100 years is incredible.
