We have a 1922 California Bungalow in Ventura County. The bungalow has tapered redwood clapboard siding with a rounded bottom edge and mitered corners. We are entertaining stripping the paint, salvaging what we can of the current siding, and replacing rotten and damaged sections with new siding.
Anybody know of a vendor in Ventura, Los Angeles or Orange counties that can get this stuff?
Thanks,

I had to go to a lumber mill and get them to cut down redwood lumber to make the siding. You might be lucky and get two pieces of siding from each 2 x 6. They charge for the lumber and a milling fee. I think mine was a $1/ft for the milling. Unfortunately new redwood is crap compared the old growth redwood. Usually it's a case of spot the red wood in the redwood.

Thanks Mick. Considering the quality of current supplies of redwood, I wonder if I can find something similar in another type of wood.
$1 a foot is pricey, but not so bad if we can save the majority of the existing material. Right now it looks like we will have to find it already tapered, and mill it ourselves on a router table for the rounded edge. My father-in-law would rather see us replace the siding with composite or fiber cement. We will lose the corner-mitered look if we go with either. The house is in great condition for its age. The siding has never been covered with anything but paint. A picture 2 years ago when we first got the house. |

Found a good source for redwood siding in our area, but it was not cheap. $1.41 a linear foot for 5.5" tapered redwood siding, primered.
Question: My neighbor's house has metal caps on the ends of the siding on the corners. Does anyone know where to get these? |
