Landscape Lighting

I am currently thinking of renovating the garden a little to make it a bit more attractive at night. After doing a bit of groundwork and reading a few reviews I have heard that malibu landscape lights would be a great addition to use. Anyone had any experiences with these landscape lights? I would love to know things like how much they cost and how long they last so I can decide whether or not to invest in them.

Malibu landscape lighting is mainstream landscape lighting sold in most big box home improvement stores. Its made overseas and subsequently is affordability priced. I had to replace my Malibu spot lights and transformer 3 times over the past 10 yrs. Its ok...but does not last. If you want high quality landscape lighting made in USA, then Encore Landscape Lighting is the ticket. You can use any transformer if you'd like.

Those look nice, although it might be a little tacky to have a bunch of miniature mica table lamps in the garden. :)
My dining room window overlooks my orange tree. I'd like to drop in a single light simple and solar-powered to show off the tree and its fruits at night. I doubt if I need something Stickley-designed for that. :) |

I only have one transformer and plugged it into an X-10 outlet in the indoor laundry room. I then ran the low voltage wire through the wall to the transformer. My transformer had a timer attached to it so I just have it set to be always on and let the X-10 wall outlet switch it on and off. With this set up you can not dim the low voltage lights though, they are either on or off. You could use the X-10 wall outlet in an outdoor weatherproof electrical box and accomplish the same thing, but again, you will not be able to dim the low volatage lights.

I would like to install some new landscape lighting, and much prefer to use just solar lights, however, every time I see solar landscape lights around the neighborhood, they always seem to generate a very weak, usually blue-ish, light. My main issue is the weak pathetic nature of the lighting. Given only these, I'd need to stick with regular wired lighting.
Even at the home centers, you see the solar lights just generate this low crappy blue light. Is this market simply not up to snuff yet? Are there solar landscape/deck lights that will generate attractive decently-bright, white, lighting, unlike the usual solar lights? Is there a certain keyword I should be looking for in a solar landscape light product that will tell me this one of a different nature? |

Looks cool! I've already remodeled my garden and decided to opt for Japanese garden style. Maybe I should add some lighting too
