Post The Thorsen house living-room table
Here is a brief discussion of one of my favorite pieces by Greene & Greene: the living-room table from the William R. Thorsen house in Berkeley. It is both familiar and unique as well as stunningly beautiful.

Wow! That really is a lovely living room piece. I've taken woodworking classes in the past, and I certainly can't create something quite that magnificent. It really goes to show you how we take certain pieces of furniture for granted. We view them as stuff we "sit and put drinks on", but a lot of hard work gets put into those pieces.

This is actually the first time that I'm hearing of "Green & Green." I'll certainly be keeping an eye on them. Thank you for sharing! :)

I think there is actually quite a lot going on in the Thorsen living room. The frieze is beautiful with painting of dogwoods and the fascinating woodwork. One end of the room is representative of a ships bow complete with a through beam for a bow sprit. The built-in bookcases and desk are wonderful and, of course, the recessed ceiling lighting is very unusual for that time.
