Post Arts & Crafts Bedding??
Hello All,

We were wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the style of bedding (comforter or quilt) to use on our mission spindle bed. Are there any good sources out there to purchase something newly made, but something that looks old? We would want the bedding to be something that is not made from animals, and something that doesn't have to be dry cleaned.

Thanks,

Rick

LLBean has a line of Bungalow bedding. I don't know if it fits your other criteria.

Thanks for the information. They had several varieties -- who woulda thought! The "Bungalow Tapestry Coverlet" is wonderful, but is a little too pink for my liking.

Aren't there a couple different colors. I thought they offered it in blue too.

The Percale comforter cover comes in blue and cream and green and cream to match the sheets, but the coverlet only comes in olive/burgundy. And it's dry-clean only, which would lead me to favor the plainer but more practical comforter cover.

I had heard Columbia was making "old" looking Arts & Crafts bedding.

I had not seen this bedding so just checked it out on the LL Bean website. The jacquard coverlet and shams are on sale right now -- don't know if that means they will be discontinued or not. So if someone was considering purchasing these items, now would be the time to pounce.

I would think that a chenille bedspread would be more correct or even a simple quilt. I would steer more towards those than anything else. Good ol' cotton washable and animal friendly.

tanya

I think we're talking about two different coverlets. The one I was referring to does not have pink in it, and it's not on sale, unfortunately.

I ordered the woven coverlet in the green/blue color last spring. It was very nice but not heavy enough to keep me warm here in the mountains. I ended up with a solid pale yellow quilt. (much warmer)

I found a nice Columbia quilt at Bon-Ton (of course they don't have a very useful web-site!). Here is a link for the Columbia Mountain Path quilt --

http://www.shoplocal.com/shoplocal/default.aspx?action=detailbroadreach&pretailerid=-99596&listingid=-2097241631

Does this look "arts & crafts"?

Not sure about how "officially" formal Arts & Crafts this set is but it does provide a vintage look. I am still convinced some of this is up to your interpretation and the style of your home and the area of the country you reside in.

That being said, we own the quilt and pillow shams and another piece out of the very same set. We have never had bedding that we have been so pleased with. The quilt portion is hand stitched to look old and the comforter is incredible. And...every time we have company someone comments on this set. The photo on our website does not do the room justice, it was hard to get the wide angle and color of the room.

We are working on offseting the bedroom with artwork with deep red mats to match the bedding and have been looking for a watercolor painting with deep red in it.

The more photos we look at of our original living room, the more the interior appears to be a combination of things they loved. My neighbors tell me that in the early 1900's in WY home owners were lucky to have food to put on the table, most worked in the mines.

Thanks for the post! It was great to see the quilt in a real bedroom! Still not completely sure, but we can't really find anything that we like better. We'll have to head back to the Bon-Ton and take another look.

Where did you get your quilt & comforter? After a little more searching, I found them both at www.pemamericaoutlet.com

Thanks,

Rick

The quilt, comforter and pillow shams were a gift from my husband.....I am not sure where he got it, however, I will ask him. The quilt is actually folded at the end of the bed....the brown is the comforter....and then we have the pillow shams. PEM is the company that Columbia partnered with to mfg this line it looks like you found their outlet site. If you want to email me I can send you other photos that might give you a better idea of what it looks like in the room. EricsonRL@aol.com

Check out The Vermont Country Store. They have lots of period-appropriate bedspreads - chenille, matelasse, etc.
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com
